Jakarta : Food Tasting : Christmas Menu at Akira Back Jakarta

Looking for a place for celebrating this Christmas? You can try this out !

Been to Akira Back multiple times, you might notice that this restaurant is one of my favorite restaurant here in Jakarta. I've done blogposts of this spot and you can check my last post here. As you know, Akira Back Jakarta has won many reputable awards, including 3 Spoons rating from Top Tables Indonesia. Congratulations Chef Andri Dionysius and the team !

Christmas is that time of the year to gather with families and friends. Dining out during this celebratory time is kind of a must, isn't it ? For IDR 650.000++, you can have 5 course menu including Sake Cocktail drink at this award-winning restaurant! A very good deal IMHO. 

So for the Sake Cocktail drinks, you will served with Baby Sake. A mixtures of Gin, Sake, Yuzu, Blueberry Muddle and Cream. I'm instantly loving this cocktail since I can taste the Yuzu at first sip! Yes, for a big fan of Yuzu like me, this kind of drinks is definitely a winner. 

The 5 course menu started with Hokkaido Scallop with Roasted Red Pepper 'Tiradito' Sauce and Grilled Corn. Tiradito is a Japanese-inspired Peruvian dish that similar to ceviche. Despite the color, the sauce in this dish was not spicy, it's more citrusy to be in fact. I found the corn was a bit over-burned so it has a bitter aftertaste in it. But I kind of like the tortilla chips on top because it gives a nice texture to this dish.

Next is Teppan Salmon, Unilaterally Cooked, Onion Emulsion, Spinach, Yuzu Perfume. 'Unilaterally Cooked' means it cooked on only one side, without being turned over. So if you're not into 'raw-salmon', don't be intimidated with the raw color, because it-is-cooked ! Again, I'm hooked with this dish since Chef Andri sprayed the Yuzu Perfume on it ! The refreshing smells of Yuzu definitely lifting up your appetite ! And again, who can resist crispy Fried Salmon Skin? 

The next one is also my favorite, Jidori Chicken, Porcini & 'Mugi' Risotto, Truffle Potato Foam. Jidori Chicken is one of the all-time-favorite dish in Akira Back, and this time Chef Andri put some twist on this dish. Mugi is Japanese term of Barley, and Chef Andri made a risotto with it. Super loving the texture!! Barley risotto is definitely my new favorites ! Oh.. and not forget to mention, the sous-vide chicken also very enjoyable as always!

The 4th course, 60hrs Wagyu Cheek, Coffee and Cocoa Braised, Burnt Onion Puree, Leek, Guinness Jus. Secondary cuts is kind of a trend nowadays, and it's actually a bit more expensive than a regular cuts. The 'cheek' meats was cooked for 60hrs ! 60hrs really. But it is worth it ! This meats is just instantly melts-in-your-mouth ! Thanks to great marbling. 

And dessert, 'PPAP', Pineapple and Pumpkin Bread Pudding, Caramelized Apple, Eggnog Ice Cream. Not like the song, you won't find any 'Pen' in this dish. Only Pineapple and Apple. Lols ! I really love the warm Bread Pudding, with crunch of Pineapples in it! Overall was enjoyable, just lacking a bit of nutmeg and cinnamon in the Eggnog Ice Cream.
