Jakarta : Jia at Shangri-La Hotel

Previously named Shang Palace, the new revamped Jia at Shangri-La Hotel Jakarta is another spot that you definitely have to try ! Located on the 1st level, I really love what they did with their interior here ! The restaurant was spacious, with several private rooms as well. So, it's definitely perfect if you are having celebrations with big number of people.


 
 

With it's earthy colours crossed with a brick wall and modern ornamental wooden panel, this place is also great for hangout with friends. Yes, Jia offers a modern takeout on a traditional Chinese delicacies, so the food is also 'instagrammable'! Lols.


 For the starter, we opted their fave menu, Crispy Fried Beef in Honey Sauce - IDR 58.000,-. Oh my, oh my, oh my ....... The beef was sooo thin and crispy, and the honey sauce definitely had that caramelized depth of flavors that makes this dish really additives! Seriously .. can't stop, won't stop munching this!

Jia also offers selections of Dim Sum. First one, of course we can't miss Xiao Long Bao ( Steam Soup Pork Dumpling ) - IDR 32.000,- and Steam Soup XO Dumpling - IDR 35.000,-. I loveeee their presentation with those tiny 'basket' for each dumplings. The Xiao Long Bao was done beautifully too! The soup inside was sooo comforting, and the skin wasn't too thick, so it's perfect !


We also been eye-ing of this Steamed Vegetarian Dumplings with Truffle Oil - IDR 26.000,-. Overall was okay, skin is thin and the filling was savory, but I barely can taste the truffle oil in it.



And of course we opted for their Signature Peking Duck ( whole ) - IDR 398.000,-. If you order this, besides the Peking Duck, you can also opted your preference for the duck meats. That time I opted for Wrapped in Lettuce. The Peking Duck skin.... Oh my...... so thin and crisp, and you can tasted the duck fats ( which below the skin)  just melting in your mouth!


 


The lettuce wraps also very delish ! The filling was soo fragrant and cooked with pine nuts that gives a nice textures in it. The lettuce definitely adding those 'fresh' taste to the filling. Definitely A-MUST-ORDER !

 Another dish to try is this Crispy Roasted Pork - IDR 98.000,-. For those who doesn't like to taste the 'fats' in a pork belly ( I know some of you!! ), this one is definitely perfect for you! The skin was very crispy, the meat was tender and juicy. Really. There's nothing to complain about !


Baked Scallop Stuffed with Shrimp Paste and Homemade Beancurd in BBQ Sauce - IDR 168.000,-. I'm also LOVING this ! The beancurd ( or tofu ) was soft, and Scallop with creamy topping is just....indulging ! Kind of reminded you of a Japanese dish, Hotate Mentaiyaki though.

And for the soups, Double Boiled Black Chicken Soup with Chinese Herbs - IDR 32.000,-. and Braised Four Treasure Soup (  with Sea Cucumber ) - IDR 98.000,-. For the soup, the taste was very subtle, but it is very comforting! 



Ipoh Special Two Salted Fish Fried Rice - IDR 88.000,-. This fried rice also very enjoyable and very fragrant ! The sliced green beans in it reminded me of a classic Chinese-style fried rice.


Anddddd Dessert !  We opted for Chilled Durian Pancake - IDR 45.000,-, Deep Fried Swan with Almond Sauce - IDR 32.000,- and Double Boiled Chinese Pear with Peach Resin and Sweet Osmanthus - IDR 45.000,-. All the dessert was sooooo yum! Especially their Durian Pancake which had thin skin, and fragrant Durian filling! It's not too creamy, so you won't feel bloated after eating it. 

 

Not only that, Jia also had extensive Tea menu! From several varieties of Pu-Erh, Oolong or even White Tea. Something that  is rare to find in Jakarta.
