Jakarta : Hwang Geum Bab Sang

Authentic Korean restaurant in Kelapa Gading

Ok I have to admit that I feel sooooo ashamed that I didn't know this restaurant before. As a fellow 'anak kelapa gading', I've heard like 5-6 friends of mine that recommending this place, but... I just forgot and never pay a visit to this restaurant.

So Hwang Geum Bab Sang is located at Gading Batavia before, but they relocated to KTC. Yes, KTC. A somewhat dodgy mall that maybe I only had visited 3 or 4 times before. Owned by a Korean, and when I went there, most of the customers are also Korean. So.... no doubt for the authenticity.

The menu was quite extensive. Lols. I had difficult time to order since I want to order all !! hahhaha... But I guess this time I will try their Korean BBQ first, but Bossam ( Steam Pork ) and Jokbal is already on my next 'to-order' list ! Yepp.. The portion was quite big, so that's why I had to choose either their BBQ or that. Oh, and they are very affordable too !

The waitress is pretty skillful and knowledgeable. She recommend the menu that quite suitable to Indonesian palate. The interior is just okay. Quite spacious though, but it's just traditional and a very typical Korean BBQ restaurant. haha.

For the 'banchan' it was not too vary, but it tasted good. Especially the 'odeng' ( fish cakes ). The kimchi was hit all the right notes, but it was a dry-type. Yes, I prefer a 'wet'-type of Kimchi with a lot of sauces.

The rice here is pretty unique, since they cooked a-la minute !! Cooked in a stone bowl and took 16 minutes to make ! Make sure you order your rice ahead haha.

Their doenjang ( soybean paste ) also delish! Not too salty.

For the BBQ, we order Sam Gyeop Sal - IDR 80.000,-. This one is my favorite of all! It was tender, smokey and savory!

Woosamgyupsal - IDR 120.000,-. Quite surprise with the price that is cheap for Beef. It tasted just okay though, thin but has that smokey aroma.

Origooi - IDR 86.000,-. Yes this is Duck meats! It was slightly chewy though. I've tasted better and this one is just okay.

Nyangnyem Gooi - IDR 86.000,-. This is a sweet marinated pork. It was a bit too sweet for me though.

A MUST ORDER, Samgyeopsal in Hotplate - IDR 86.000,-. The meats was sooo savory and fragrant with taste of sesame oil and some sweet sauce. I can't stop eating this one !

Haemul Soon Dubu - IDR 76.000,-. The soup was spicy and savory, the tofu was soft too with some pieces of seafood in it. Very comforting !

Bajirak Kalguksu - IDR 65.000,-. A thick noodle beef soup-based, with seafood. The broth was a bit plain, but the noodle was very enjoyable since it has that bouncy textures, and the seafood was fresh !
