Jakarta : St Ali

Finally this specialty coffee shop from Australia opened in Jakarta !

Thanks to social media. Even though they haven't made any announcement about the opening days, I just found out through a friend that they already opened for business ! Without any second thoughts, I pay a visit since I'm definitely a curious-customer. Lols.

St. Ali was a coffee roaster/shop based in Melbourne. Founded since 2005, St Ali was one of the pioneers of specialty coffee movements. St Ali direct trade their coffee beans, especially from Colombia. Through an event with Common Grounds Jakarta some time ago, I've asked to the St. Ali's head of coffee, Matt Perger, 'Why not sourcing beans from Indonesia???'. He said unfortunately, our farmers still wasn't consistent in producing good beans. And they're producing tonnes and tonnes of coffee per year, so that's why they need a consistent produce. Well yeah.... let's hope our farmers will do better and better. Therefore, let's support our local beans !

St. Ali Jakarta was partnering with Common Grounds. In here, you will meet some familiar faces. Talking about the interior, I kind of like the vibes here. Even though there's no AirCon, but the space was actually quite airy. I also like the minimal setting of 'espresso bar' and 'manual brew' bar. It's quite theatrical to watch the baristas working right?

For the coffee, I opted for some Manual Brew of single origin Colombia Portillo - IDR 60.000,-. I love it ! It has the grapes-apples kind of fruitiness with a hint of floral, and a sweet sugary finish. Really nice !

Latte Piccolo - IDR 45.000,-. This was using their 'Orthodox Blend' which is a 60% of Colombia - Guatica, 40% Brazil - Fazenda Rainha. It was medium bodied, with a taste of sweet milk chocolate.

A friend of mine opted for Iced White ( Latte ) - IDR 45.000,-

Iced Chocolate - IDR 50.000,-. You can tasted the fruity dark chocolate, but would be better if it's thicker and more intense in flavor.

Cherry Crumble - IDR 50.000,-. This one from a local business called 'Ladies Who Bake'. It was nicely done. Not too sour, not too sweet. The crust was soft but not that crumbly.

They also served brunch-type of food here. I think they're also brought some of their signature menu from Melbourne, here in Jakarta. I couldn't resist to not order this Bacon and Maple Syrup Waffle - IDR 100.000,-. I've heard they're making their own bacon ( what! ), and yes it was delish. The waffle was crisp and light, and had a hint of cinnamon in it. And paired with the sweet maple and salty bacon? Not complain.
