Jakarta : Food Tasting : New Menu at Akira Back Jakarta

Savour this enticing new menu at Akira Back Jakarta!

Last week, Chef Andri Dionysius invite me in person to taste some of his new creations at Akira Back Jakarta. Maybe some of you already knew what I've been having before on my previous blogpost here, and yes, Akira Back still one of the best restaurant in Jakarta IMO !

In one of my episodes of my own TV Show "Yummy Traveler" ( Foodie Channel - First Media ), I'm also visiting and reviewing this place! So in this blogpost, I will combine both of them.

From the appetizer, Chef Andri serves us this Chilled Corn Soup - IDR 85.000,-. This soup are served with Seared Hokkaido Scallop, Togarashi Popcorn and Avocado Cream. Personally, I really love the presentation! Soooo pretty ! The corn soup already blended and it was light and a bit creamy. I love when biting the Togarashi Popcorn ! It was adding the texture to the smooth soup, yet you will get that spicy kick in your throat.

This one is not on the menu, but Chef Andri makes this Crispy crackers made from squid ink, and also topped with Iberico Jamon, Cherry Tomatoes and Tomato Jelly. I do love the crispy textures of the crackers, and tomato jelly makes this a bit sweet, mellowing down the saltiness of Jamon. Should be on the menu then? Oh, I also love the presentation!

One of the signature of Akira Back that you won't miss is this Tuna Pizza - IDR 235.000,- ! Chef Andri gives a new option of King Oyster Mushroom to this Pizza. Couldn't go wrong with that ! Still my personal fave dish with it's fragrant truffle oil!

The next dish is a dish for people ( usually Chinese ) who celebrates birthday in Akira Back. Yep, usually Chinese people have to had Noodle on their birthday. It's a symbol of longevity they said :D So to make a noodle dishes 'out of the box', Chef Andri creates this Soba Maki with Blue Crab Meat and 'Lomi Lomi Salmon'. Isn't it interesting?? Soba that shapes into maki roll ? Never seen that before. But yeah, love the generous Blue Crab Meat and also the savory dashi-based sauce. Oh the Lomi Lomi Salmon, which is a dish originally from Hawaii, tasted a bit spicy yet refreshing.

Next Chef Andri serves this sampler of AB Tacos - IDR 185.000,- , Una - Q - IDR 170.000,- and Alaskan King Crab. I will not review the AB Tacos, because I already reviewed it on my previous blogpost. The Una - Q is my personal fave! And you have to try this dish ! This is Unagi shirayaki with Seared Foie Gras, Truffle Powder, Balsamic Teriyaki sauce and Sliced Cucumber as the wrap/base. Never know that Unagi really goes well with the foie gras ! This two just melts in your mouth ! The Balsamic Teriyaki sauce also nice with it's sweet savory taste.

The Alaskan King Crab also tasted very delish ! It was fresh and served with baked Togarashi mayo. If you familiar with 'Volcano' sushi, this has the same topping by the way. It was bit salty and spicy.

Next is this Grilled Octopus - IDR 195.000,-. This one served with Chicken Chorizo Gyoza, Salsa Verde and Red Miso Chipotle. I don't know why, but I don't think the Red Miso Chipotle suits my palate. All I can taste is the spiciness of it, so it's kind of overpowering the other components of this dish. The Chicken Chorizo Gyoza is quite interesting with it's spicy seasoning though.

The last main course of the day is Porterhouse - IDR 690.000,-. Ideally they will served with 600gr Coffee Crusted Striploin,  'corn on the cob' and Korean Black Garlic Bordelaise. From the looks I thought the beef was dry, and I was wrong, it's still juicy yet still get a 'bite' texture in it. You can get a hint of coffee taste, and it was tasted even better with the Black Garlic Bordelaise ! They made their own Black Garlic, and you know.... it is a hard labor! Usually you will need 2-4weeks to cook and fermenting the garlic ! I'm quite amazed with their dedication! The taste of the sauce is very savory, bit sweet with hint of caramel and mellow garlicky taste. Love it ! Oh, the corn on the cob also interesting, because they use baby corn, they baked it with cheese ( parmesan maybe ? ) and a bit of chili powder.

For the dessert, we served with this Tiramisu. This was deconstructed one, because it was served with cream cheese 'ball', Kahlua cream sauce, aerated ( microwave ?) sponge cake and Coffee Ice Cream. I really love the Ice Cream ! And it was presented beautifully I must say, yet the taste also indulging.

Next one is Chocolate in a Cup, this one is a Chocolate based cake, with Rum Raisin Ice Cream and Banana Foam. The Rum taste in this was very strong! So it's kind of overpowering the banana foam. I like the moist chocolate based cake though.

From my TV Shooting, I've tried this Yuzu Cheesecake. It was presented beautifully, with it's tangy creamy yuzu cheese mousse. It's also nice to have it with the crumbles and mix berries ice cream. If you prefer light and refreshing dessert, you can opted for this !

As you can see, it seems Chef Andri has spoiled me with this delish new menu ( thank you so much Chef !). I recommend you to try them, because the quality that they offer here is not the same with any other restaurants. Cheers!
