Jakarta : Food Tasting : Shanghai Storm at Alila Hotel

Ready for some Chinese-food storm ?

Shanghai Storm is a Chinese food restaurant here at Alila Hotel Jakarta. The name was quite different isn't it? Just like a movie title. Anyway, Alila Hotel Jakarta is quite well known with it's modern and minimalist design. No exception with Shanghai Storm, the restaurant also embracing the same design.

It's quite spacious though and the ambiance is more to a casual dining. They also had open kitchen, and several private rooms.

Alila Hotel invited us ( me and several food bloggers ) for a lunch, and they said in Shanghai Storm, they serve a modern Chinese dishes. So... shall we?

Started with this Spring Rolls. It tasted nice though. It was light, and I love how crispy it is.

Next is, Scallop with Asparagus in XO Sauce. The scallop was fresh enough and perfectly cooked, the aspragus also nice and crunchy. But I think the XO sauce needs to be 'shine' in this dish.

Braised Beancurd with Minced Beef Szechuan Style. The beancurd was nice, but again, the Szechuan taste needs to be more 'punching' since it's a bit too mild to my palate.

Pan Fried Ribeye with Baby Beans, served with Homemade Sesame Sauce. This was my most favorite dish ! The beef was tender, the baby beans was still crunchy, and the sesame sauce tasted savory and a bit sweet. I think this one really captured the 'Modern Chinese' food really well, and in my humble opinion, I think they should do more dishes like this.

Deep Fried King Prawn with Curry Leaves and Chillies. This one is also quite enjoyable I think. The prawn is fresh with crunchy crust, and I like the crispy curry leaves in it.

Deep Fried Chicken, with Cashew Nut, Leek, Salt & Pepper. This one is an 'okay' dish as well, need something to make it more 'different' I think.

And something you cannot miss is their Hainamese Rice ! It's really-really good ! Sooo fragrant and lifting up your appetite.

And for the dessert, they make this Crispy Mango/Durian Ice Cream. So it's actually a cream of Mango/ Durian and then coated with fluffy batter and then deep fried. Yep it's fluffy ! and the cream tasted nice too. But I prefer the Durian one :p

And for the mocktail is this Remedy. It was light and love the lemongrass flavor in it !
