Jakarta : Tim Ho Wan

Michelin Starred Dimsum place finally open in Jakarta !

Yep I bet you've heard all the raving stories about this dimsum restaurant, Tim Ho Wan. Awarded with one Michelin Star, this restaurant been well known as the 'cheapest Michelin Star restaurant in the world'. Since they already open their branch earlier in Singapore, finally Jakartans could get the same privilege.

Located in PIK area, the place is quite spacious. It was decorated well and good enough for a Chinese restaurant. The downside is you can't do reservation, and you can't get your table if the person in your group wasn't complete. Last night I'm going there with my friends and there's 7 of us. I already come earlier, and the rest 4 friends of mine still on the way. Still, even though we do queue early, we'll be skipped until our friends come.

I'm kind of pissed off though, because I've seen there's many vacant table inside ( like 5- 6 tables ), and they're said close-order time would be 7.30pm ( that time I came around 7pm ). And I was like................ ?!??!!!!
Rule is rule, but I don't see any advantage on keeping your customer queue-ing ( and starving ) while the tables were vacant though.
See this vacant table? It was next to mine when I got in.

So anyway, the 3 of us decided to get a table for ourselves first, since we've drive all the way to PIK, and it's near the close order time. First we opted the famous Baked Bun with BBQ Pork - IDR 38.800,-. What's good with this bun is the crust. It's very soft yet crumbly, just like a bolo bao. The charsiew pork inside was tasted sweet and juicy. It was different so it's a must-try!

Cheong Fun with BBQ Pork - IDR 36.800,-. I found this cheong fun is done very well. The rice noodle was flimsy and not too thick, and the sauce was not too salty or too sweet. Just. Right.

Pork and Shrimp Shumai - IDR 36.800,-. I'm a big fan of Shumai and this one was sooooo gooood ! Yep it's that good, so I order one portion more! :p What I like with this Shumai is you really can taste the chunk of pork and shrimp there, and they put the bits of shitake mushroom on top, so it gives that 'earthy' flavor to the shumai. And it was perfectly cooked !

Beef Ball with Beancurd Skin - IDR 33.800,-. This one also tasted different ! The beef ball was very-very soft in texture! Not chewy at all, and what makes it enjoyable is there's a water chesnut bits in it ! So it's soft, but you get a crunchy texture in your mouth. Nice right ! Yep we can't help ourselves to not order this again, so we add one more :D

Shrimp Har Gow - IDR 38.800,-. This one was also done right. The skin was very thin and the shrimp inside is crunchy and juicy.

Beancurd Skin Roll with Shrimp  - IDR 38.800,-. Again and again, the shrimp inside was generous ! Perfectly seasoned as well.

Steamed Beancurd Skin Roll with Pork and Shrimp - IDR 33.800,-. This one is really good too. The sauce is what makes it different. It was very garlicky.

Congee with Pork, Century Egg an Salted Egg - IDR 33.800,-. Gosh, this one also yummy. The porridge was blended, so it's creamy and smooth in texture. It's almost like eating a cream soup :D

Their Chinese Tea - IDR 9.800,- also tasted different. It was very strong and herbal.

Overall, I'm quite satisfied with the food quality. Is it worth the Michelin Star? I don't know. You'll be the judge !
